Only sysops can delete pages. If you want to create a test category I can delete it when you're done with it.

Alright, thanks for the offer, however it looks like Eraserhead already confirmed what I was thinking so I don't think there's a need to create a test one anymore to confirm myself.

I don't know how else to define top tier if not "works best". Don't let the awful Dell dude commercials color your perception, they make a good product. I grimace everytime someone walks into my office and says "Dude, you got a dell!"

When you are watching a YouTube video, I tend to forget where the home button is. Or when surfing the web for some time while in the dark.

And I don't literally mean glow in the dark like those cheap Halloween things, I'm talking about an actual light behind the capitative square symbol which has a sensor which turns on when there is a certain level of darkness.

I can easily envisage this happening . It would look fantastic.

Wouldn't that be so annoying in the dark, like the backlight on the keyboard of a MBP when your watching a movie?

Why not just have high fuel taxes ala Europe?

    This.

If you do a mileage-based tax, it seems like there will need to be a way to log and report miles traveled. The report seems to address a couple of ways of doing this, but they are both systems which are additive to all of our existing tolls, taxes, and metering. Why not just increase the federal taxes on gas and use the existing "metering" we have... the gas pump.

In CT we are taxed I believe 50 cents on every gallon. The problem is that as gas prices rise people buy less of it and the taxes dry up.

Seems like if the mileage tax is successful at one of its apparent goals - reducing unnecessary trips - mileage traveled will also go down, drying up taxes. What's the diff? In either case, less gas used or less miles traveled, the burden on the infrastructure is reduced, so in theory less taxes are needed, anyway.

I fully agree that this site is less than ideal in it's rating system. My points are:

    1. Here is, as far as I can tell, a not particularly Mac friendly site that compares the performance of Macs vs. PC's.

    2. Based on these ratings, an iMac is actually the best buy for middle of the pack machines.

    3. Again, based on these ratings, the top of the line Mac and P4 machines are closely matched in performance.

    4. These conclusions are probably more significant in that they are based on data from a site that is not pro-Mac.

From my experience, it's the Finder that's slow, not iDisk. I access my iDisk (the few times I need to) from Transmit and it is very fast.

Awesome! I had no idea I could use Transmit for my iDisk!@ sweet, man, sweet--I'm going to have to look into this.

Humans should have the full right to decide over their own bodies, that includes planned parenthood and abortions.

Ah, but they believe they own you, from birth, whether they are government or religion.

The only people that should have a say about how you choose to conduct your life, IMO, are your progenitors. And this is with limits.

If they have created an abomination to society (a convicted killer), then they, and they alone, should be able to "pull the plug", the better to erase their 'miscue'.

because the 700 spectrum has theoretical data speeds much higher then the "standard" spectrum.

my family has been happy with t-mobiles service where we live for over 6 years and there rates are very affordable.

The only reason i went to ATT is because of the iPhone and if the iphones does come to t-mobile i will be switching back.
The speed has nothing to do with the frequency used. Those Canadian carriers I mentioned have a theoretical speed of 21Mbps (HSPA+) and they use the same frequencies as AT&T.

Nor does it stop people from letting their fingers fly on the keyboard before they know all the facts.

LOL, yeah factsLike you saying The Consumerist was lying for web hits even though AT&T brought out the girl to recant her statement. Or you coming up figures that say 1.2% of all NYers are subject to credit theft and assuming half were so thieves could buy iPhones. Or summizing that this was the real problem only for AT&T to change their policy a day later. LOL, yeah facts

Wait....there are rules...but then apple can bend them as they see fit?

The rules should apply to all or to none.

Just another reason I really hate apple and cant wait for jobs to leave.

Does nobody realise that you have to support the exFAT format (from Microsoft, currently NOT supported on OS X, and has to be licensed by Microsoft) to be able to use more than 32 GB? (or the up to 2 TB). Otherwise if you format it with the old formats you are stuck on the same limits as you would with ad SDHC card..

    Sort of.

Lets separate reading and writing exFAT. If I can read it, I can pull stuff off of it. So OS X will require the ability to read exFAT in order to make it compatible with non apple devices that will be using this format. HOWEVER, it is not required that Apple choose to read exFAT. You could format with HFS+. Then any device that can read HFS+ could read and write to it.

If I can write to exFAT, then I can place data (even 4GB+ media files) on the card. Apple may create a driver that allows you to read exFAT but not write to it.

This matters if you are going to use the card to store media files (4 GB+), or are planning on using the card with non Apple devices. I could get a 128 GB SDXC card, format 100 GB in FAT32 for a user directory, and format 3 8GB swap spaces (one for OS X, one for Windows, and one for Unix). Then I'd have my user files and swap space with me wherever I go, and it would be cross platform compatible (everyone reads and writes FAT32). Yes, FAT32 does have a maximum partition size, this is why I used a 128 GB SDXC card as the example. And yes, I wouldn't have my media files (movies) on the card (I'd need one of the 2 TB cards to do this).

Since Pretec is selling an ExpressCard SDXC reader, this is what I plan to do with my triple boot MBP (see sig). I'll point my OS X user directory to the directory that will be on this card, I'll do the same for Win7, and BackTrack. Each OS will also have swap space on the card. This increases security too. If I have my SDXC card with me, someone using the laptop can't see my files at all. It also increases speed (maybe and a little) because I'm using a different storage device and bus to put my user files/swap space on.
